In the lead up to the 2021 NSW Local Government elections in an environment disrupted by Covid-19, with twice rescheduled elections, and lack of a local newspaper, Council has coordinated a ‘Meet the Candidates’ session to ensure, in the interests of the public good that our community has the opportunity to hear from prospective lead candidates running for both Mayoral and Councillor seats.

This ‘Meet the Candidates’ session seeks to provide a neutral forum to hear from those running for Council and Mayoral positions, offering the opportunity for candidates to speak to key issues so that our community can better understand the thoughts, opinion and plans of Mayoral and Councillor group lead candidates.

in line with Covid safe practices this forum was recorded for our community to access, including an overview of the role of Councillors, by an industry expert outlining the role of local government, and its Mayors/Councillors, and within that rewards and challenges of representing the community at a local government level.

The session was facilitated by Ms Kerry Grace, the Chief Executive Officer of Regional Development Authority Mid North Coast, as a local leader and independent of Bellingen Shire Council.
