Bellingen Coastal Management Program

Council is preparing the Bellingen Coastal Management Program (CMP), a long term plan for coordinated management of the open coast estuaries and their catchments

Development of the CMP presents an opportunity to address key issues and prioritise management actions over the next 10 years.

There are five stages in the CMP process and Stage 1 was completed in 2020. It included preparing a Scoping Study in consultation with the community and other stakeholders that identified seven main issues or topics of concern.

Stage 2 has commenced and is focused on determining risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities within the estuaries and catchment of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers and our open coastline.

Have your say on our Interactive Map

As part of consultation for Stage 2, we’ve created an Interactive Map of the catchment area.

We’re inviting the community to drop a marker on areas they’re concerned about and provide comments and photos that relate to water quality, erosion, pollution, climate change and sea level rise, community access to the water, governance and riparian conditions.

You can view the comments and photos left by others and like or dislike them if you agree or disagree.

The map closes for comments on 19 December 2021.
